Dutch illustrator Rie Cramer (1887-1977) depicted children enjoying the change of seasons in a whimsical way. I wish we knew more about the Dutch illustrator. There's not much info out there. Perhaps I need to dig a little deeper.
She was born in Indonesia but moved to the Netherlands when she was nine. She studied at the Art Academy in the Hague, and illustrated numerous children's volumes.
I feel so nostalgic about this slide from summer into autumn. Now that I have my own children, all seasonal changes seem extra loaded with significance. I'm so aware of time, always always rushing past us.
I love Cramer's way of showing the children engrossed in their play. Her illustrations have a true sweetness and innocence to them.
This is one of my favorites. Cramer's interior paintings are loaded with fun, accurate details from the time period. I love the curtains and that little dollhouse.
