Hello! We're back from our trip to the Pacific Northwest. Adam's grandfather turned 100, so we flew up for the celebration. Unfortunately, everyone but me had an awful stomach bug or food poisoning-we couldn't figure out which.
Unless you're a book person, you probably won't find this amusing, but...
The night before we left, I started Ian McEwan's Saturday. (Minor spoiler, but it's only about the first chapter) Little did I know it starts with a plane blazing and plummeting towards the ground. Thanks, Mr. McEwan. I already get a little uneasy at takeoff and during turbulence. I didn't need it spelled out for me on the eve of a trip. Sheesh.
Then, on our one day at the sea shore, we were stuck inside because everyone was still sick. Poor family. I was extra disappointed because I'd really been looking forward to our one day in Long Beach-what a charming little town! We're definitely going back.
Adam and I had been listening to the audio book The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini that week. We got to the part where Amir gets carsick. Yuck. We'd already had one daughter throw up in one rental car on the trip.
So...bad reading selections for the trip. Great books, bad timing.
P.S. I saved the last chapter of The Wizard of Oz for our return. I wanted Violet to hear the "No Place Like Home" bit when she was tucked back into her own bed in Texas.
