I'm taking Violet to The Nutcrakcer this weekend. It's her first time to attend the ballet...we can't wait! We've had Tchaichovsky coming out of our speakers for a week now.

I'm not sure this is technically a fairy tale, but it sure is a wonderful holiday tradition. Who doesn't like The Nutcracker? Oh, hush. I can hear one person out there complaining. You're in the minority, buddy!

Let's look at Uncle Drosselmeyer. In the melee of sparkle and tutus, he doesn't often get his due. I've been missing my Uncle Bobby this holiday season, so here's a little uncle tribute.

I prefer my Drosselmeyer to have a patch. I bet it's hard to spot with it on, though. I also adore the children's pastel party clothes. Real children don't stay clean that long, do they?
We've been watching this today, too. It's designed by the beloved Maurice Sendak!
Ballet West's Drosselmeyer...hmm. I think this isn't working as well as some of the others. Drosselmeyer appears to be very young, and also perhaps a woman. I like the cape, though.

Robert Parker in Birmingham's Royal Ballet. These capes are lovely! Aaand...he used to be a pilot, too. So dashing.
Long live Uncle Drosselmeyer!
