I am huge fan of fairy tales. And, since I have a degree in art, I'm more than a tad obsessed with the art found in these stories from childhood. I'm going to be featuring illustrations and paintings found in classic tales.

I like his menacing ear hat flaps and her old school pointy princess hat.
Rumpelstiltskin by Paul O. Zelinsky
Rumpelstiltskin: A Tale Told Long Ago by the Brothers Grimm illustrated by Edward Gorey
Brothers Grimm Serie I: Rumpelstiltskin AND The Six Swans (The Children's Poetry Picture Books)
by George R. Halkett
by Jesus Blasco (he was primarily known as a comic book artist)
As a child, I was always morbidly fascinated by how he dies. Here is a small excerpt from the original Grimm's fairy tale:
"Is your name perhaps Rumpelstiltskin?"
"The devil told you that! The devil told you that!" shouted the little man, and with anger he stomped his right foot so hard into the ground that he fell in up to his waist. Then with both hands he took hold of his left foot and ripped himself up the middle in two.
Ooh I love it! I forgot the part about ripping himself in half, scare-scare. I love all the illustrations. There's nothing more mesmerizing than staring for hours at your favorite story illustrations as a child (or grown up).

Man, those Grimms fairy tales could be downright nasty.
