Well, it's over for another year, isn't it? I feel a bit dazed...do you guys? I am still sick, and all I can think about it trying to get well again. Sorry to be whiny, but dang-I don't think I've ever been sick for this long in my whole life.
Here are my little loves peeking through the doggie door. Mooskies is so tiny we just installed a cat door.
Violet "helpfully" lifts the flap and yells, "Mama-Piper's crying!"
Poor Piper. She's at that age where separation anxiety has kicked in. If I leave to take out the trash, get wood for the fire, unload groceries...whatever, she cries. If I run to the bathroom, she cries and shoves her chubby little arm under the door, sobbing, "Mama..mama..mama!". If I go into another room to put away laundry, she cries. If I go outside to sign for a UPS package, she wails.
It's sort of flattering. Sort of.
And poor baby is teething. She is usually so happy...it's heartbreaking to see those tears. If I rub her gums where the teeth are breaking through, it seems to help. She toddles up, grabs my hand, and tries to push my hand into her mouth so I'll rub her teeth. Isn't that the most pathetic thing?
I wish she would chew on those teething toys, frozen rags, etc., but she doesn't seem interesting in anything I give her. We have some organic teething tablets that seem to help a little, but she seems miserable.
It's the time of year we make and repair our birdhouses. Actually, Adam does it all, and I follow him with a chart and a camera. We check the state of every box, clean out old nests, spiders, wasps, whatever was in there, add new hay, then document it all for the tax folks.
I love getting out this German pyramid every year. When you light the candles, the heat propels the whirly thing on top.
I like the Princess Leia angels on top. See their cinnamon bun hairstyles?
Around and around and around they go.
Tasty pots of food on the stove. You can never go wrong with a classic cassoulet and fresh bread. In the cassoulet, I never use duck fat. Who has duck fat lying around? Not us. I skip all the duck ingredients, actually. I'm just not a fan of duck...so greasy. I substitute bacon grease instead.
Wait...I just complained about duck greasiness and then said I use bacon grease. Okay, I'm a cooking hypocrite, but you'll just have to forgive me.
I'll miss that little tower watching over our meals. The girls watch it, Piper pointing happily and said, "Hyeh!" and Violet just smiling and smiling.
Food tastes better in the winter, doesn't it? There's something so comforting about being inside on a cold day and eating something yummy. Candles make it even better.
Look at those big tears!!! Oh my!!
The kitty dorr shots are hilarious Laura.
It's like, you try to run away for a second, and little faces can still peek through the door, mama mama mama mama mama!
I wish you buckets of feeling better my dear Laura friend!!

You're right about those angels on top! They have that bun hairdo! I hate having to take down the Christmas stuff. I'm doing it today. : (
My cold is finally winding down. I have not left the house in ages! The weather we've had was not good for being sick. It's supposed to be 11 today! At least it's above zero & not below!
I realized with this weather that I need to put out more birdhouses, at least as protection from the elements. I have lots of feeders & boy are they eating a lot right now. I'm trying to feed all the outside critters. There's so much snow, it makes it hard for them to find food. Yesterday 2 little birds spent the whole day huddled together on my window well cover. It's a grate & our dryer vent is in the well. I guess it was a warm spot because of the dryer. Those were 2 smart birds!

You're so sweet to think of the birds, Laura T. It's hard out there for our little feathered friends! I often wonder how many birds die during hard winters due to lack of food and shelter. Thanks for feeding them!

Piper!!!! I need to kiss those cheeks - I love your girls, Laura. They are so very lucky to have you for a mom - I hope you're better soon!

Oh, Sandra! It was so nice to hear from you. I wish my girls and Milo could grow up playing together. Hawaii is just too far away!

Laura Loo! Why oh why are you sick? Could it be banananitis? :O
Tell me about this documenting birdhouses for the tax man thing. Curious indeed.
Those little girls are getting to be bigger little girls every time I visit your page. Maybe I should only visit every four years...except then I would miss you.
I'm back at the Treehouse...slowly.
Glad to hear your Christmas/Thankygivingstide/NewYearsinese all went well!
{In foodville, as usual everything you mention/make sounds good --ok maybe not the Tudor angle-- but homemade brisket and bacon burgers makes me swoon almost. Well yeah I did swoon for real, but it makes me sound pathetic but good gawd come on brisket and bacon burgers for pete's sake!}
Feel better soon, lovely one.
XOXOX <---germ free Roo love
OH MA GERD I almost forgot to tell you! Neil Gaiman is thinking of turning his Victorian Home into a writer's retreat!!!
R-O-A-D-T-R-I-P!!!!!!!
