If you're in a Little Mermaid Mood, I have a feature up on art featuring the Sea Witch at my book blog.
Three days at the beach felt just about right. We stayed right on the beach, which I highly recommend if you have little kids. The Pleasure Pier is such a fun, retro addition to the skyline. The girls aren't old enough for most of the rides so we skipped it, but it was fun to watch the lights grow brighter as day faded to dusk and into night.
See? Right across from the beach. This is the view out our window. Violet was a happy camper, but she looks kind of pouty in this photo, huh? She didn't want to leave.
We played in the Gulf. Obviously. It was the first time both girls got to play in the ocean. Violet has seen the Atlantic, but it was too chilly to get in.
Palm trees make me giddy. I know that they're just background scenery to people who live here, but they just scream BEACH to me.
Adam felt a certain affinity for the statue on the right. Is that a raccoon on her head, you ask? No, just a wolf.
Here. Lest you ever, ever forget what I have to put up with during the cold months.
Violet was a big fan of the waves, and especially shell walks with me. We all got pretty sandy and soggy, but that's the point, isn't it?
We kept the baby under a big pop-up tent most of the day. That thing sure came in handy.
Piper (happily) ate a lot of sand. I dog a little hole for her, filled it with cups and toy mermaids, and Violet brought bucket after bucket of sea water to fill it.
Sand, taffy, sun, palm trees, pink swim costumes. Looks like a marvelous escape.

Looks like you had a great time! I love palm trees too. They add exotic atmosphere.

Thanks, V. It was a fun trip. I'm always nervous about taking a good camera with all the sand and water, so I took a little one. Do you worry about dropping your camera in dangerous-to-camera areas?
