Have some scary Pope art. You're welcome.
Portrait of Pope Innocent X by Velazquez next to Francis Bacon's Screaming Pope
He looks like a real meanie, doesn't he?
I'm not Catholic, but I think the Conclave process is so interesting. From the long line of red robes and funny hats to the sending up of white or black smoke, I find the whole process fascinating.
Pope Benedict is the first pope to resign in almost 600 years.
Poor Ratzinger. From that wretched name to his frankly-terrifying appearance, the guy got a bum rap.
The poparazzi (see what I did there?) seemed to delight in getting bad photos of Pope Benedict. Those crazy get-ups don't help much, either.
He bears an unfortunate resemblance to Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars.
Ratsy was actually kind of handsome in his youth, though. A slight Daniel Craig resemblance, perhaps? Nah.
Ratzinger had a tough act to follow. Could Pope John Paul II have been any more likable? Someone I know once described him as 'the grandfather you wished you'd had'. He was practically Pope Mister Rogers.
Pope Benedict always looked like you caught him just as he was about to dine upon small children.
This was hilarious!
Ratsy was a handsome young man. See what working for the office of the Inquisition does to you?

I get it...poparazzi. He always did scare me a little. I really liked John Paul ll. He seemed so nice. It was so sad seeing him deteriorate & try to keep on as Pope. It was hard to watch. He couldn't even keep his head up & you couldn't hear him. I think it's cool to step down before you get to that point. Could you imagine if we had to keep working until we died...no retiring! That would be horrible. You could be sick or on your death bed but....no quitting! Maybe he will have set a new standard to step down.
I liked your little jig. I think you did a fine job!
I also caught the Edward Gorey Google. I love his work!

Laura T.---I know! It seems crazy (and even a little cruel) to expect someone to work until they die. Also, it seems like it cheats all the Catholics out of healthy Pope at the top of his popin game.
