Oh, my favorite people! Is there anything sweeter than a big sister kiss?
I went for a walk in the woods without Violet. It was before she was awake. She usually loves to take walks with me, so to take the sting off being left behind, I try to bring back some nature treat. I found a huge Burr Oak acorn, and a pair of tiny twin acorns with another pair of 'parent acorns'.

Have you guys seen this awesome acorn cakelette pan from Nordic Ware? I want. I want. I'm not sponsored by Nordic Ware, but man-oh-man am I a big fan. They make the best cake and shaped treat pans ever. Ahem---Nordic Ware folks---I would not be sad at all if you wanted to send me some products to try out.
I saw a suggestion to make buttermilk cornbread acorns to accompany chili. CUTE for your hungry autumn squirrels. Another recipe suggested smearing them with maple cream cheese centers...yum.
(This one is from BigCatTreasures on eBay)
Last autumn, I bought a chocolate acorn mold on eBay. I am still liking that thing! For a few bucks and some melted chocolate, you have amazing-looking, relatively simple treats.
To make them look more realistic, I used regular chocolate melted for the body of the acorn. For the cap, I mixed white chocolate with regular chocolate to make a lighter brown. Then, I used a paintbrush to paint that into the cap area of the mold. After it set up in the fridge 10 minutes or so, I poured in the melted darker chocolate.
Violet and I are still wearing our autumn hair accessories we made. I like to mix up antiques with garage sale jewelry and then glue on faux and real forest finery. Dollar and craft stores are packed with autumn fakes this time of year....acorns, pine cones, feathers, etc.
Slap it all together with some hot glue and slip it on your head/neck/ears/dog. Everyone looks better in jewels and leaves. Trust me.
LOVE Nordic ware ~ it's expensive but worth it.....every once in a while, the thrift store has Nordic & I squeal out loud! But really, how many bundt pans can I own ~ apparently, quite a few.....
Your chocolate acorn is darling ~
