The Dallas area is being hit hard by West Nile Virus. There have been over 800 cases, and 24 fatalities this summer. I live in one of those infected orange counties.
So---I'm extra worried since we're in the worst area, and I have two small children. This is sad, but I haven't let Violet go outside much at all this spring and summer. Mosquitoes love her, so i'm really paranoid and keep her inside most of the time.
A friend of mine lost a co-worker to West Nile last year, and we know several other people who have been infected. It's scary!
They've started aerial spraying in Dallas, but not in our area.
Did you know there are a ton of giant mosquito sculptures out there? Yuck. I thought I'd make a short list of them.
This one's is Komarno, Manitoba, Canada.
Bicentennial Park, Asheville, North Carolina
This is made from old car parts by Russian artist Valery Chaliy.
Alaskan Highway welcome center sculpture. (By the way...what the heck is that sign warning us about? Buffaloes stopping to chat with a pegasus?)
Yellowknife, NT, Northwest Territories, Canada
Berneck, Switzerland
Upsalla----This is creepy!
Hexham, Australia
Wow...is there a more universally hated insect?
I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE MOSQUITOS.
I hate them more than that in fact.
SOULEMAMA makes some good homemade mosquito repellant.
Of course - I tried tea tree oil.
Works good for about an hour.
But, sadly, nothing works better them chemical for me. I wouldn't use it for ever actually.
Until this year.
Lovee convinced me.
I just had to plunge. "Off."
I know it will kill me in the end. Ah well.
West Nile or chemical mosquito repellant?
Hmm.
And the dogs are on heart worm.
Bleh.
Porr little V.
At least she has become a phenomenal songwriter musician!! Better than playing in a sand box, me thinks.

We were sprayed Friday and Saturday night. I heard the plane, immediately forgot about it and went outside to chat with neighbors. When I came back in I had the worst headache that I can remember. Then it dawned on me...duh.
