Adam took a day off work and we had a Family Day. We all went to my ob/gyn in Dallas, then took a tour of the hospital where Violet's sister will be born. She got to see her little sister on the ultrasound! Baby #2 is as active as this one---someone help!
Violet particularly enjoyed catching a cricket at the hospital. It wasn't crawling with bugs, lest you think I'm giving birth in some slummy, roach-infested rat trap. The hospital was very clean, the cricket just hopped in right at the entrance.
Waiting rooms can be hard on little kids. Violet was very good, but perhaps a bit energetic. It was nice to have Adam there with me. They went outside and picked flowers in the parking lot. (Pretty weeds.....we didn't rip up the landscaping, I swear. We're not total heathens. Only partial heathens.)
Since we had on our matching Mama/daughter hippy dresses, I braided the flowers into our hair.
We had to go to the car dealearship to get something done. It's funny....Violet watches videos, but we don't have traditional television at our house. She's unfamiliar with the concept. So---at the dealership, she sat in the comfy chair, had a VERY rare soda (maybe her 2nd ever?), and watched Nick Jr. until we had to leave.
We talked to her about the day later, and she recapped what we did:
"We went to Mama's doctor, saw little sister with the special camera, we went to the hospital and I touched a cricket....um......then we ate at a restaurant (everything from Chez Fifi to Taco Bell is a restaurant to Violet), then Daddy took me to the movies."
Don't you love little children like Violet? So easy to please....
First, to even notice the cricket
Second, to touch it!
to pick weeds and see them as pretty flowers
and to not even really know about soda ;)

Jill's words about Violet made me pause, and think how truly charming this child is. Busy, and charming. Glad Pappa came along for entertainment, before the TV came on. TV and a soda! She's gonna be looking forward to that next trip.
