I decided to give Lo-Fi a try. It's a retro photography program that gives your current photos vintage effects. I haven't had access to a dark room for years, and I rarely use real film anymore. I miss photo 'mistakes', don't you? They offer a free trial, so why not give it a go?
(NOTE: My blog background is set to black, so you can't see the special edges as well as you could on a white screen. To get the full effect of the edge function, you need to have a white background default, which most people do. To see the edges like they're supposed to appear, click on the image to see it in a separate screen, where it WILL have a white background.)
After photo, using Oldachrome/Glamour/Crumpled features
I like that the first one is 'us', and the second one could be...."Hey, look at how much you look like your mom!"
After using Inflamed/Plastic Lens/Scallop features
After photo using Flash SX-70/Light Leak/Peeled functions
Fun, huh?
Here are a few suggestions to make your photos work well with this program:
-Choose images that will play well as 'timeless'. Don't use a photo with your child wearing a Spongebob Squarepants t-shirt, or holding your iPhone.
-Stay away from a detailed background unless it will read as historic or generically vintage
-Choose classic shots everyone in every family has always taken....naked baby on a rug, a person standing under a tree, family portrait with parents in chairs and children standing behind, in front of a famous landmark or monument, Halloween/holiday/dance/school play costume, etc.
-Make use of some of your crappier digital photos. Do you have a great portrait of your child's smile but their hands are blurred? Great! Work with it. It adds to the 'old' ambiance.
Very cute! I especially love the photo of Violet, she's so adorable. I use Piknik, although there are some aspects of it I'm not keen on...the only problem is it makes me feel like I "have" to edit all my pics! ;P
